MEGT Institute, Clennett’s Mitre 10, and Whitelion were proud recipients of the 2015 Industry Collaboration Award at the Australian Training Awards gala celebration in Tasmania on 19 November, for their successful Certificate II in Retail Traineeships program.
The program was created to provide long-term employment and training opportunities to vulnerable youth in the Tasmanian communities of Mornington, Kingston and Huonville. These employment opportunities directly link to Clennett’s Mitre 10’s Career Pathway Plan and the ongoing growth of the business as it fulfils its five-year expansion plan.
The partnership evolved through Clennett’s Mitre 10’s strong community focus and decision to work with a charity to partner and support its programs. Whitelion was chosen – a charity dedicated to assisting disadvantaged young people.
MEGT Institute was introduced to the program to provide the on-the-job training element for the trainees sourced by Whitelion. Together with Whitelion, MEGT Institute specialises in providing support, encouragement and guidance to help the trainees overcome challenges and achieve their training and work goals.
Following the initial introduction to retail training, Clennett’s Mitre 10 and MEGT developed a dedicated Retail Trainee Program and Career Pathway with individualised qualifications to support every stage of each employee’s career.
The success of this relatively young partnership is already evident with Clennett’s Mitre 10 recently taking on its seventh trainee through the program, and the first two students moving on to full-time roles (one becoming a Department Supervisor). The trainees have won customer service awards, grown in confidence, demonstrated an exemplary work ethic and hold pride in working and providing for themselves and their families.
The collaboration was also awarded the Industry Collaboration Award at the Tasmanian Training Awards on 28 August.
