Congratulations to MEGT apprentice Bradley Grainger, who recently won the first ever HIA Tasmanian Apprentice of the Year award, impressing judges with his strong work ethic and appreciation of quality building and construction principles.
The fourth-year carpentry apprentice from Cunic Homes, Hobart, took the state’s top honours at the awards that recognise outstanding trade knowledge, quality building work, strong presentation and solid trade school results.
Brad was thrilled to accept the title and sees the award as a great personal achievement.
“It was an honour to win. It’s great recognition and gives me the confidence to keep working hard and improving. I want to be the best carpenter I can be,” said Brad.
Brad also had some words of advice for anyone considering entering a trade.
“Stick to it because it’s definitely worth the effort, and take your time in your work, as quality is everything,” he said.

Chief Executive of Cunic Homes, Rod Shelley, nominated Brad for the awards and explained what he believes contributed most to his apprentice’s success.
“It was Brad’s positive attitude and desire to achieve good results and grow within the business. He is ambitious without being pushy,” explained Rod.
Brad is now a national finalist in the 2016 HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards, placing him in the running to be named HIA Australian Apprentice of the Year. In the meantime, he will continue to work towards one day running his own business or taking on a management role at Cunic Homes.
We wish Brad all the best for the national awards!
