The Victorian Government will be investing $8.4 million into skills, training and job search support in the south-east of the state as part of the Automotive Transition Plan.

The plan was announced after Ford, Holden and Toyota made the decision to stop manufacturing in Australia, and is designed to secure jobs and support businesses, workers and training providers in the automotive industry.

The plan includes Jobs and Skill Centres for Geelong, increased funding for employers under the Back to Work Scheme, and now the South-East Automotive Industry Transition Package (SEAT).

South-East Automotive Industry Transition Package (SEAT)

As around half of Victoria’s automotive industry workers live and work in Melbourne’s south-east, the government will provide just over $8 million to ensure the workers in this region can access all the services they need to strengthen skills, training and job search options.

A $4 million partnership between Chisholm and Holmesglen Institutes will provide workers with careers advice, retraining and job-placement services. A further $2 million will be put towards opening Skills and Jobs Centres at Holmesglen and Chisholm Institutes and $2 million in funding will be provided to Group Training Organisations to support automotive job placements.

Through the Skills and Jobs Centres, a worker will be able to access job search advice and services, as well as being matched with training and employment opportunities.
