The Glass & Aluminium Association of Queensland (GAAQ) conduct the annual Industry Training Awards to recognise excellence among Queensland’s glass and glazing apprentices.
This year saw three MEGT apprentices working for G.James Glass and Aluminium receive awards. MEGT’s Australian Apprenticeship Support Network has a successful partnering relationship with G.James Glass and Aluminium . G.James Glass and Aluminium is one of MEGT’s National Clients and they’re serviced by our team of experienced and professional Account Managers.
Boyde Barnett
Glass Industry Overall Apprentice of the Year
Recently completing his glass and glazing apprenticeship, this apprentice shone. Taking on extra responsibility in relation to workplace health and safety during Level 4 on a major construction site; producing a training record book that has set a new standard for all current apprentices. He has displayed leadership, team work and communication skills a cut above the rest, and these are just a few reasons that this apprentice’s Employer and Training Coordinator could not think of a more deserving winner for this award.
Boyde’s dedication and motivation have won him earlier GAAQ apprentice awards as well. After completing his apprenticeship, Boyde is now responsible for residential installation projects. Boyde received a complimentary trip to the national conference Australian Glass & Glazing Association (AGGA) in Melbourne during August.
Jevon Wong
Apprentice of the Year – Residential Fabrication
Jevon has proven to be a highly capable apprentice and is currently working with to complete all the requirements of residential fabrication apprenticeship. Jevon’s excellent communication and his ability to work well within a team have won him many laurels.
Jevon has been described by all managers and trainers as an asset to the business, a pleasure to have around and an employee they would like to see return upon the completion of his training.
Paul Bell
Apprentice of the Year – Glass Processing
Paul, a glass processing apprentice, has demonstrated initiative when it comes to his apprenticeship and developing further skills.
Paul mastered the double edger and has recently applied his transfer skills to on teach his knowledge to another employee. Paul has recently become a dad to a beautiful little girl and has juggled his work, apprenticeship and family obligations very well.
