Taking on an apprenticeship can be one of the most rewarding decisions you will make in your professional career. For Brodie Oakes, nominee for the upcoming Apprentice of the Year award, the list of achievements has been impressive.

Earlier this year, Brodie attended the Group Training Australia conference as a representative of MEGT, and a spokesperson for apprenticeships in NSW. Brodie was able to use this platform to describe his own experiences as an apprentice and present ideas about the apprenticeship program.

In February this year, Brodie presented a project for host employer Qenos at a conference at the Mercure Hotel in Sydney. The project was based directly on Brodie’s work on site with Qenos. This was followed in May with the completion of a 6-week placement at Holland Engineering.

And to cap off a huge year, Brodie completed a Cert IV in Mechanical Engineering, having already completed a Cert III in Engineering (Mechanical) and a senior first aid qualification.

Apprenticeships are challenging and require significant effort and commitment. They are demanding because the rewards can be huge: with the right attitude and a supportive host employer like Qenos, you can establish yourself in the industry in just a few short years.

By the time Brodie had finished his apprenticeship, he had secured a permanent role within the business and launched immediately into his career.

Well done Brodie!
