MEGT Apprentice Chef Peter Anthony Yann is about to undertake the adventure of a lifetime after being named the 2015 Apprentice Chef of the Year, and winning a four-month work placement at the highly acclaimed Aqua Alpine Ski Resort Restaurant in Hakuba, Japan.
At the awards ceremony, held in Brisbane on Monday 26 October, Peter said his family’s passion for food was one of the biggest and earliest influences on his career.
“My mother, aunts and grandmother were excellent home cooks. Childhood memories consist of large tables of food, mainly fresh seafood and always a pig on the spit. Food has always been a large part of my family, it brought us together and would always be the canvas for a good time.”
Originally signed up by MEGT Apprenticeships Consultant Joshua Mann, Peter recently completed Certificate III Commercial Cookery, whilst working for Apple Tango restaurant in Woolloongabba.
MEGT Apprenticeships Consultant Brooke Haer and MEGT Key Account Consultant Brett Cooper both attended the awards. “When you see the finished product as we did and know that MEGT were there at the beginning, it’s very rewarding,” said Brett when speaking about Peter receiving the top accolade of the night.
We wish Peter every success in Japan and look forward to hearing all about his amazing adventure!
Congratulations to the other MEGT finalists from the night:
