In the lead up to the Australian Training Awards on 19 November, MEGT is celebrating the achievements of all our apprentices and trainees who have won state-level awards and who will be competing for a national title this week. Today we celebrate the winner of the state-level Australian School-Based Apprentice of the Year Award for Victoria:
Elliott Grayling
Qualification: Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician
Employer: Grayling Electrical
School: Mildura Senior College
Elliott Grayling was only 14 when he began work in his father’s electrical business and credits his father’s dedication and passion as an electrician as the reason he chose to undertake an Australian School-Based Apprenticeship in Electrotechnology whilst still at Mildura Senior College.

Elliott’s on the job experience at Grayling Electrical has given him experience in domestic and commercial installation, high voltage power stations as well as the day to day running of a business.
Are you still at school and wanting to get a head start on your career just like Elliott?
Head to the MEGT website to find more information about becoming a School-Based Apprentice.
Elliott finds his job very rewarding and plans to go on to complete a Bachelor of Engineering and a Bachelor of Commerce at university once he has completed secondary school. He is thrilled to have been nominated for an Australian Training Award, saying “it will assist me to further motivate myself and gain recognition in this industry.”
He also plans to use this experience to help him become an ambassador for apprenticeships both in Australia and overseas.
We wish Elliott all the best for this week’s national awards!
