The Australian Fair Work Commission has recently made changes to the Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers Award, which will impact first-year apprentices.
These changes have resulted in an increase in the following for all first-year apprentices employed under this Award:
- wages
- plumbing trades allowances
- tool allowances, and
- travel allowances.
These changes will take effect as of the first pay period on or after 1 January 2016. More information on the changes can be found here.

As a result of the changes, MEGT Host employers will see an increase in charge rates from 1 January 2016. These increases will be kept to a minimum and our administration fees, and other employment costs will not be increased.
New charge rates will be communicated to the affected Host employers soon.
