On Tuesday 24 November, MEGT held its annual graduation night at Karralyka, Ringwood. Each year, graduation is held to recognise the hard work and dedication of our MEGT Institute students who are undertaking training at the Trade Skills Centre in Ringwood.
The night also acknowledges our apprentices and trainees employed through MEGT’s Recruitment Management Services, as well as the contributions and support our host employers offer them as they work towards their qualifications.
We are proud of all our graduates and award winners and today we celebrate the 2015 MEGT Institute Victorian Student of the Year:
Thomas Coy
MEGT Institute student Thomas Coy has been named Student of the Year after successfully completed his Certificate IV in Small Business Management under the Apprentice to Business Owner (AtoB) Program.

After completing his trade apprenticeship with MEGT, Thomas started his own carpentry business and quickly discovered how much he disliked paperwork! This prompted him to apply for the AtoB Program through MEGT to enable him to learn the skills he needed to do his own paperwork and better manage his time between the work site and the office.
Started in 2013, the Apprentice to Business Owner Program (AtoB) provided up to 12 months’ training in a nationally recognised qualification in small business management. It also included business mentoring support.
The program was offered to trades people who successfully completed an apprenticeship in a trade on the National Skills Needs List (NSNL) and wanted to gain the skills and knowledge required to run their own business.

When speaking about the AtoB Program, Thomas acknowledges how much the Certificate IV in Small Business has helped him grow his business.
“Completing this course helped me to refocus my goals to take on an apprentice and the skills to manage it effectively,” said Thomas.
Thomas was proud to receive his award for Student of the Year. “Receiving this award is such an honour and completely unexpected,” he said.
Thomas continues to grow his business and was pleased to be able to sign up a new apprentice recently through MEGT and offer his apprentice the same opportunity for a trade career as he was once given.
