The Tasmanian government has announced funding of $19 million in three jobs programs aimed at providing Tasmanians with the skills to find employment.
The user choice grants program will receive $16 million, the workforce development grants program $500,000, and the training and work pathway program $2.3 million following the announcement on Saturday.
The User Choice Program provides subsidies to employers of apprentices and trainees. Endorsed Registered Training Organisations of an employer’s choice can cover the cost of training for apprentices and trainees under the $16 million grants program. Importantly, the program will be administered as a grants program, rather than a tender process, which means the funding will be available year round. This will enable a more responsive and flexible approach to meet workforce development and training needs year round.
The workforce development program aims to foster an industry-led strategic approach to future employment needs, and the training and work pathway program provides education and training opportunities to Tasmanians experiencing disadvantage.
Applications for the programs have opened, and the flow of funding to successful applicants will begin in 2016.
